Embracing Self-Love

We often express our love to our spouses, children, and dear family members with heartfelt “I love you” messages. But how often do we say “I love you” to ourselves? Do we ever stand in front of the mirror and appreciate ourselves?

Daily Affirmations and Self-Appreciation

Every single day, for every small good deed you do, appreciate yourself. Give yourself a big kiss in front of the mirror. This is the essence of self-love. If you are afraid of being alone, constantly needing the presence of others, or relying on work, music, or any distractions, it’s time to take serious action. You need to develop self-love.

Your Best Friend is You

The best friend you can ever have is yourself. Nobody else in the world can love you as much as you can love yourself. Once you develop self-love, you can thrive happily in any situation or circumstance.

Dealing with Negative Feedback

Consider this: if someone says something bad about you or a person you love doesn’t reciprocate your feelings, it’s natural to feel low. Your self-esteem might take a hit, leading to regret and negative thoughts. But why should this happen? Is that person truly responsible for your well-being or happiness?

No, you are the only one responsible for your happiness and well-being. If someone says something negative about you, it’s up to you how to react. If you let their words affect you, it disturbs your mind. But if you brush it off, recognizing it as their opinion, it won’t impact your mental state. You know who you are, and only you can make yourself unhappy. Choose to be happy always—that’s self-love.

An Inspirational Story

I had an interesting conversation with a 45-year-old lady from Bangalore, who works as a purchase manager in an MNC and lives alone. During the lockdown, I asked people to describe their lockdown experience with a Bollywood film title. Many had creative responses, like “Khubsurat” or “Lakshya.”

This lady, despite being alone with no physical company, responded with “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” and “Jeene Bhi Do Yaro.” Her attitude was refreshing. She explained that the lockdown gave her much-needed “me time.” She enjoyed her own company and found solace in being with herself, demonstrating true self-love.

Cultivating a Positive Mindset

This type of attitude ensures perpetual happiness. Often, we complain about small things, but if negative thoughts come to your mind, acknowledge them without speaking them out loud. The universe picks up on spoken vibrations and reflects them back to you. Conversely, immediately speak out positive thoughts to attract positivity into your life.

Conclusion

Remember, speak out the positives and let go of the negatives. Before speaking, take a deep breath to give your brain a moment to think. Smile and enjoy your life. Self-love is not just about feeling good; it’s about nurturing a relationship with yourself that’s built on trust, positivity, and unconditional love.
